Mission

We want to change lives through education by supplying resources to help families overcome the challenges they face daily. The South Gate team is impacting our community one family at a time. Our mission is to equip families to overcome their current challenges and live healthy productive lives.

Our Vision

South Gate Learning and Resource Center, a nonprofit organization, takes great joy in giving back to our community. Our goal is that the people in our city will live successful lives. Thousands of pounds of food is given away weekly to help families overcome difficult times. Whether it is education, food or clothing, we believe our community deserves to be valued and provided for.

Our Story

In 2014, Frank and Linda Holland started South Gate Learning and Resource Center after they became aware of the statistics on children’s literacy. They were shocked to find out that achieving reading proficiency by the end of third grade was a strong predictor of high school graduation. As parents, they knew the impact that literacy could have on a child’s life. Hiring a private tutor is expensive. To provide the same level of tutoring for free, they began the ARK Literacy Program to help children in the Las Vegas area.

When the center was started, there were a lot of low income families in the area that were struggling financially to feed their families every day. As a resource center, they decided to partner with local grocery stores and Three Square to provide the need they saw. “Feed Vegas” was born. Our program “Feed Vegas” helps feed about 2,500 families per month. Last year alone, this program donated over ONE MILLION pounds of food to the Las Vegas community.

Since the Resource Center was established, it has branched out and developed new programs. These include providing clothing to low income families, embracing our senior citizens as well as meeting essential needs for the Christmas and Thanksgiving seasons.
